Guildford's primary Freeview transmitter is the Guildford relay on the Hog's Back, only a couple of miles west of the town centre — a low-power relay specifically built to cover the town beneath the North Downs. Hannington is the alternative for higher properties and rural fringes, and Crystal Palace is occasionally viable from Pewley Down. Pointing a wideband at Crystal Palace from most GU1 / GU2 roofs simply doesn't work.
GU1 and GU2 housing is extremely varied — period stock around the cobbled High Street and Castle Grounds, Edwardian villas through Onslow Village and Pewley, inter-war and modern through Burpham and Merrow.
